Purified Water
A further by product of the technology is water purification. AÂ process of reverse osmosis is incorporated into the technology to produce clean and safe drinking water. A force is required to push water through a membrane against the osmotic gradient. The purified fresh water is then pumped directly to a storage tank. Rivers, canals and low land reservoirs and surface waters will have a significant bacterial load and may also contain algae, suspended solids and a variety of dissolved constituents. Mechanical pressure is applied to an impure solution to force pure water through a semi-permeable membrane.

Clean Water
Reverse osmosis is the most thorough method of large scale water purification available and is integrated into the technology to enable a dual system capable of generating power and purifying water. We utilise a TFC semi permeable membrane. This layered configuration enables a high rejection of undesired materials (like salts), high filtration rate, and good mechanical strength. The polyamide top layer is responsible for the high rejection and is chosen primarily for its permeability to water and relative impermeability to various dissolved impurities including salt ions and other small, unfilterable molecules. As in the case of electrolysis the largest cost component in any desalination or water purification systems is electricity (c70%). By reducing electricity costs through our unique technology, clean and purified water production finally becomes commercially viable.
